Hi, it's me again.
After having tried to update Planetdance with no succes as described in a previous post I uninstalled it completely (?) and did a new installation only to get the same results, only this time the program crashes after one clicks on the "Minimize" icon in the upper right hand corner.
Seems to me there is some configuration file that does not get removed, but I don't know. This is the first and only time I've ever had this kind of software problem, so if there is anybody out there who has had a similar experience I would very much appreciate any information on this subject.
Best regards

Hi sorry for the late reaction, i'm not getting notifications from the forum about new posts.
Just as with your previous post i have no clue what causes this. It must be some glitch local to your ssystem because i hear this for the first time.
You could try deleting c:\planetdance completely, then download again but i'm not sure it will help.
-
Hi Jean.
Appreciate your reply. I tried a new installation as well, on two computers, but to no avail. Oh well, maybe I'll figure something out.
Best,
Bengt

On two computers?? Weird.
The problem is also a strange one, clicking minimize is a 'system action'. I did not program that, every program has it. Maybe it's the tool i use.
Just for the sake of it you could try with one of my other programs like https://jcremers.com/Oracle.html
ps, don't install to c:\program files\

The same problem here: I used the maximize icon in the right upper corner and the application disappeared.
But here is the solution:
-Close the application (right click the Planetdance icon on the taskbar and close)
-Open the file c:\Planetdance\pd.ini and make a change in the section [MainForm]: Maximized=0 to Maximized=2
-Start the application
-
I see, this bypasses the mechanism where it remembers it's window size, so it just starts up maximized. Should also work with Maximized=1 ?
But i really don't understand why it crashes yet. And i hesitate to remove that functionality.
If you set [MainForm]: Left=0 does it crash?
-
When using the Maximize-icon and close the application, the ini-file is changed to:
Maximize=0
Left=4099
and after starting the application again, the application is invisible.
The solution is then:
-change Maximize=1 or Maximize=2
-or change Left=0
to start the application normally.
-
You are starting pd on a second monitor? Do you have two monitors?
-
No
-
After closing your pd.ini says left=4096, that's a very big monitor. Full hd is only 1920 and 4k is 3840, so i really wonder where that 4096 comes from..
-
Desktop with monitor Philips PHL 243V5
Resolution 1920 x 1080
-
The problem is not the monitor of my desktop.
I've now the application installed on my laptop, with the same problem.
After maximizing and closing, the application is invisible after starting.
The ini-file says also here:
Maximize=0
Left=4099 (not 4096)
-
That 'left' value is very strange, it says pd should start at horizontal value 4099 while you monitor only has 1920. So it will not be visible.
What happens if you change it to Left=1, and restart planetdance?
I changed something, could you please test if the problem persists?
-
Maximized=0; Left=1
Starting the application
The window is not maximized, but visible
Clicking Maximized button
The window is now maximized
Clicking Maximized again
The window is not maximized, but visible!!
The problem persists when the application is closed while the window is maximized.
I want test the application when sending it to me.
-
thanks, please download this https://jcremers.com/pd.exe and replace c:\planetdance\pd.exe
This ignores the settings in pd.ini for the main window and just maximizes it.
-
:)Congratulations!
The problem is solved.
-
Wow! Great to hear.
-
Jean and martinus, I'm so greatful to you guys for taking time out to look at this thing.
Jean, I upgraded to the changed version and it does prevents the program from crashing. However, I'm sad to say that the chartwheel still won't resize, at least not on my computer...
-
Maybe I found the answer to my problems. Could it be that I earlier on copied the entire program from one computer to another (with another size screen) instead of updating it from the internet, thus copying inappropriate configuration settings?
-
you could try to delete pd.ini to start over with fresh settings.
-
No, that didn't work, unfortunately.
-
can you post a pic?
-
I'm not sure if I can, I'm not very good with computers.
-
First take a screenshot using the windows snipping tool. Then when you post, there's a button Attachments and other options. Click on it, click on choose file and post the pic.
Or use some freeware like greenshot for taking screenshots.
-
Okay, here goes:
-
thanks, that's helpful.
but this is not maximized, is it?
I've seen problems with laptops that lie about their resolution, maybe this is the case here. Is it your only pc?
-
When it's maximized everything is fine, but when the program is made smaller the chart wheel is still the same, large size, only partly visible, as in the picture.
The screenshot is from my laptop, only I have the exact same problem with my stationary computer.
-
Would it be helpful if I posted the contents in the ini-file?
-
By the way, I still have a ini-file from an older version which was/is still working (on both computers) with the resizing zodiac. That may be helpful, then again I don't want to take up your time.
-
Look, the main chart does not resize when you make the mainwindow smaller.
It used to do so many years ago but it had too much problems.
If you want a different size, use options - settings - layout - user resolution, and restart.
-
I see. Glad that got cleared up.
