Title: found helio search issue
Post by: KylePierce on January 10, 2022, 07:32:20 PM
Hi Jean, well here's a new year's treat for you...

It looks like something is missing with the Sun/Earth transit events when I do a helio transit-transit search for aspects. Below is a sample. Note that the Sun positions are always 0 Ari 0 (so it's the transiting Aries point :-). And there's something I found that seems related, very rare: A chart with a stationary Sun! See attachment, I just clipped the table of planetary positions for a current helio chart. (Also, the Sun symbol would ideally be replaced with Earth for helio, like it is in the wheel.)

Hi Kyle,
Please post a pic from the List window with all settings.

Ok, here's a screenshot of the settings (attached).

I didn't calculate the heliocentric sun there correctly, try an update..

Thanks, Jean. That took care of the main issue. I think the best solution might be to just turn off the Sun in helio mode.

Why? Still something wrong?

Here's a list from the updated pd.exe. It is an improvement. Notice that the Sun's aspects with Merc and Venus say "exact" but the Sun's other aspects look like this one (Sun Sex Nep on 2/1/52), showing not exact but 8 degrees. But the bigger problem is, the Sun's exact aspect doesn't show up at all. It should show up about 8 days later.

I don't feel very happy with your new year's present Kyle. :)
But seriously, to reduce the amount of searching please tell exactly what aspect you are missing and a picture with the list window so i can try to duplicate.
You know yourself how tedious this is.

I'm sorry I brought this up, actually. Just turn off the Sun aspects in helio.

This is the only Sun Sex Nep event that shows up in the list (see at bottom of this post).

02/01/1952 20:24  Sun Sex Nep  0759'59"     1156'11" Leo    1956'11" Lib

So, this is a "world transit" that happened on 2/1/1952 and it is not the exact aspect event. The exact aspect event doesn't show up at all. If it did show up, it would be about 2/09/1952 but I don't have the actual exact event because it's not in the list.

You can use any of the non-exact Sun aspects to see the same problem.

Here's the screenshot again (attached). I hope it's okay that I am sending you the text output rather than a literal screenshot of the output. Here it is:

Kyle i have taken the easy way out and disabled the Sun in Time List when you set Heliocentric.
I apologize for all the work i made you do.
The last pic is helpful, if i feel like it i might take it up someday.

Thanks, Jean! I wasn't complaining so much about the work I had to do, just didn't want to make it harder for you. Truly.  8)

Jean, I just saw your response and got the update, but the Sun is still disabled for helio. While you're at it, how about disabling the Moon for helio mode? Thanks.

Sorry i must have forgotten to save the script, i did a new update.
Moon also has problems?

I just assumed no one would ever want Moon aspects to helio planets. I haven't even tried it.

It does not make much sense no.
I'm using heliocentric in the planetdance.ab script under Application and no moon aspects either.
How's it doing now?

Jean, it is looking good! There are plenty of Sun aspect events now. Thank you so much!

Great to hear. What do you think, shall i disable the moon for helio listings? It's not disabled in a helio horoscope though.
Title: Re: found helio search issue
Post by: KylePierce on January 12, 2022, 02:11:20 PM
It seems like pd has logic that skips the Moon for helio listings and horoscope. So disabling it would match the logic.

Sorry i don't understand.

For the sun/earth, there's a separate calculation but for the rest of the stuff I just pass the swiss ephemeris flag SEFLG_HELCTR to swe_calc_ut().
What do you mean by logic?
Title: Re: found helio search issue
Post by: KylePierce on January 12, 2022, 03:56:04 PM
I just meant the obvious thing, that you don't get Moon aspect events even if you check its box, and you don't get the Moon in a helio horoscope even though you didn't turn off the Moon anywhere. So the "logic" I guess is in sweph. Doesn't matter to me either way.
