Classic, Medieval, Vedic / Ashtakavarga with Heliocentric coordinates
« on: October 22, 2023, 10:40:10 PM »
Hello all,

I have an uncommon question regarding Vedic / Ashtakavarga.

In a few words: I need to draw a Vedic Hora (D2) chart with Heliocentric coordinates and check the Ashtakavarga count of that chart.

Is this possible with PlanetDance?

Many thanks
C

General Astrology Topics / Query example for Uranian Astrology?
« on: January 02, 2023, 05:49:02 PM »
Hello and Happy New Year everyone!

I have a question re: how to use the Query function. I am trying to do some research with Uranian Astrology where I would like to put in a Uranian "equation" and search as to "when" in time this equation will occur. I understand that this can be done with the Query and I would be grateful if someone could offer query syntax examples.

E.g.

Conjunction: Mars / Hades
Opposition: Jupiter / Kronos
Midpoint: Jupiter=Saturn/Admetos
Sum: Sun=Mars+Venus
Other examples involving more than 3 objects.

Many thanks!
Chris

Hi Ed,
Thanks for your note.

Personally speaking I am most interested in the Mundane side of Astrology. In these terms, I found Sedgwick's book so full of "esoteric" references that I was not able to comprehend most of what he is/was talking about.

Yes, a Helio chart is quite different from a Geo chart. One is looking at the two charts trying to understand if one of the two is correct or if they are complementing each other. Most people prefer the latter - hence Sedgwick's approach to the matter: if Helio is complementary to understanding the "self", then which "self" does Helio show me? Noble endeavour from Sedgwick's side but... I could not understand what he's talking about.

Be well and thank you for the conversation!

I have that book - I am not entirely convinced of the rationale.

Astronomically speaking Earth is just another planet revolving around the Sun. If Sun is the reference/constant, then its position on the Zodiac is none other than 0 deg Aries.

Calculating how the Zodiac itself unfolds around the Sun is another matter of contention. Tropical calculation doesn't apply, therefore it's Sidereal. If Sidereal then what Ayanamsa (in Vedic lingo) to use - since they are all made for geocentric use?

I accepted that for Heliocentric use Ayanamsa = Zero (same as Sidereal J2000) makes more sense than Lahiri, Fagan/Bradley, etc.

Last but not least: there are no Houses, no AC, no IC and no MC in Heliocentric. Current wisdom maintains that geocentric  planetary/zodiac attributes have the same meaning in Helio and I accept that until I am given enough reasons not to.

Fair enough! :)

Hi Jean,

According to the (scarce) reading material currently available Houses are not relevant in Heliocentric mode.
Yes, Earth & Moon are always conjunct from the Helio perspective.

It seems to be more of a matter of graphical representation than anything else.
Looking forward to your thoughts,

I am exploring PlanetDance in Heliocentric mode and I am a bit perplexed.

If I am not mistaken, in Helio, the Sun is supposed to always be at 0degAries. (Attachment 1, OpenAstro)

In PlanetDance the Sun is always conjunct with the Moon going around the zodiac just like another planet. (Attachment 2, PlanetDance). At 0degAries the only constants are Pars, Lilith and Node.

Is there a remedy for this?
Many thanks!

Hi Jean,
Time-Query works for me. The examples listed in Help are very enlightening. I will surely try it.
Many thanks!

Many thanks Jean!

However, currently, when I am searching for aspects for e.g. 3 planets, the search yields results in pairs. E.g. I enter Venus, Mars, Saturn; in the results I get aspects in pairs of Venus/Mars, or Venus/Saturn, or Saturn/Mars, etc.

It would be very helpful to also have results for the entire planet selection - if such results exist in the given timeframe, of course.

Just a thought.

Thanks again!

Planetdance General / Heliocentric aspect(s) search
« on: April 26, 2022, 10:41:17 PM »
Hello everyone!  :)

My name is Chris, I am an Astrology enthusiast and I am interested in Heliocentric astrology.

Planet Dance is the best software suite I have come across when it comes to Heliocentric. It is so loaded with features that it will definitely take some time to master it.

Please forgive my ignorance but, how do I do a Heliocentric aspect search involving more than two planets?

E.g. I would like to know what aspects Venus, Saturn and Chiron form between date-X and date-Z.
Is this currently possible?

Many thanks!
