Classic, Medieval, Vedic / Ed Greek Horoscope
« on: September 02, 2020, 08:52:19 AM »
Hi there - Ed Greek Horoscope is due for a re-write. It's nearly three years since Jean and I worked on the original version of the module. It will be a long job to do this, so I am planning to work on it over the winter period.

If you have any feature requests or suggestions please put them in this thread.

The aim will be to include dynamic functionality (see new version of Medieval Traditional Chart) into the module and improve the interface.

The display is likely to include a combination of tabbed data screens with additional windows.

I can't promise to do everything, as the script is already extremely complicated, but do ask for additional features if you think they would add value to the module.

I'd be grateful if you could include sources or references for any techniques you wish to have included.

In order to preserve the integrity of the module, I will include only Hellenistic and classical techniques as the broad aim of the script is to show the horoscope as it might have been used by Greco-Roman astrologers.

Best wishes. Ed

Thanks! This is probably the most ambitious script so far. Some of these features will be included in the forthcoming re-write of Ed Greek.

All the best. Ed

Astrobasic / Re: How to handle multiple windows in a script?

Thanks Jean - that's a really helpful template. I like tabs. They worked well on the scripts that I used them in.

All the best. Ed

Hi - you can get sign positions for each of the planets using checkbox Planet Signs (column two, list item two). This will output all the basic planetary listings by Sign (Sun-Pluto, Fortune, Lilith, Asc, MC, Node, Chiron etc). You would then be able to work with the spreadsheet to identify the Moon sign column in particular. The script is a beta really, and needs a bit of understanding to work, so this is why I don't publish it, but release it for researchers if they express an interest. It's not complicated, but needs some knowledge of research/data manipulation.

You can see the output below. The data you want is outputted as integers.

Aries = 1
Taurus = 2
Gemini = 3 etc

The hour and day rulers are:

Sun = 0
Moon =  1
Mercury = 2
Venus = 3
Mars = 4
Jupiter = 5
Saturn = 6

Hi Kyle - I've never gone that far with them. I have a feeling that the canvas can only take output, so essentially they're for displaying data. Another option is tab(). You can see this in action in Horoscope-Various-Chart Scopes. I've only started using this function recently. I'm going to be using this in the new version of Ed Greek Horoscope and probably in a lot more of the scripts that I write.

The advantage that I can see is that the user can step through tabs easier than going back to the menus for new output written to a canvas. You will see that one part of the tab can be dedicated to a permanent output (say a chart) while another part can be re-written with new output (say a listing of data). Again I'm not sure if the tabs can take controls, but they operate more like windows unlike canvas(), so they might do.

The limitation is screenwidth on this one. I think a lot of tabs can be generated but eventually you will run out of screenwidth to display them. I'm not sure if they wrap. Obviously the number of menu items is virtually unlimited but there's some practical display limits on tabs. They also take some vertical space from the display.

This is from the help:

Syntax: tab(char menus[][$], label onchange)

makes a tabcontrol (see c:\planetdance\ab\extra settings.ab) with tab names found in 'str'. When a tab is clicked the label is called and the number of the tab is put in the variable 'tabnumber'.

Hi Kyle - I use canvas() a lot. It works quite well. You can see examples in Horoscope-Extra-Cosmobiology and many other scripts of mine. You can only have one canvas at a time. Ed

HI - I have developed Jean's script with additional features, can you describe what you want. All I ask is that if you use this and modify it you let me have your code so that we can continue to improve the features of PD. I don't release this generally as it is a very specialist script for research purposes. Ed

Thanks Jeremy - that's very helpful to have the translation. The maths seems pretty simple to me. From what I understand the method is primarily about oblique ascension.
