welcome to the boards
« on: July 04, 2020, 11:49:36 AM »
This is the horoscope from the moment i registered the first forum, later on i changed it because that one didn't have a nice way to upload pics.
I've tried to setup forums before but it never got on, i'll give it another chance.

Thanks, Jean, for setting up a non-FB group. FB gives me the creeps.

Why do you say so Kyle?
Myself i'm getting tired of all the bullshit posted, sorry to say. :)
And all those glossy astro posts that look more like spam then anything else.

Hi Jean - thanks for creating the forum. I'm with Kyle on this one - FB is ugly - just a data harvesting machine. Why feed the monster if we don't have to. I appreciate you offering an alternative.

Kyle - the coincidings module is very interesting. Thanks for putting this script in PDfW.

All the best. Ed

Jean, like you say, lots of spam and just being aware that we're in the belly of the beast.  :(

Ed, thanks for your interest, and likewise I admire the work you've put into PD, so much it amazes me.

I'm working on an update to coincidings and I'd be happy to hear of whatever you see might be improved in it.

The new features include:
* a new Wheel item on the menu that creates a recurrence chart for 1, 2, or 3 selected events.
The charts for more than 1 event are based on the mean date between events.
* a new Search feature that allows event figures to have either 2 or 3 selected events.
The 3-event figures are, as you might expect, a lot less frequent than the 2-event ones.

I wasn't going to say anything about that yet, but it just slipped out  ;D

Well i do like facebook for the few contacts i have, and also, it did planetdance a lot of good because since i started that group i get much more feedback. And feedback is needed if you are creative.

But i agree, lately it has not been that much fun, and i also like to have a more reliable medium for communication about planetdance. But this forum won't get the 700 users the fb group has that soon i can tell you, fb is very convenient in several ways.

On the topic of recognition, it's a problem, i hear it from other people too, but it's inherent to astrology software, this world just overflows with it. It takes something like pd, free and very comprehensive, to even get noticed. Heck even i still feel neglected at times.

Just thinking, one way to get people to the forum is to announce things on fb with a link to the forum. For instance Ed, you could just completely by yourself create a topic for a new module here, while i just post the link and a little bit info on fb. Don't want to loose fb however, sometimes posts get shared and that is promotion, have to find some middle ground, see how it goes anyway.

Btw the ab forum i think is best meant for developers, not for new scripts, but for changes like a new command or such. For new scripts maybe some structure has to be made so as not to make it one big pile of new functions, what do you think?

Jean, I like the idea of having a section where things like tutorials and other references could be maintained and made available. I made three coincidings tutorials that were announced months ago and now are no longer readily visible in the FB group. The same is true, I guess, of the tutorials you guys have posted for PD. They don't have a permanent location in the forum, even though they are relatively permanent info sources needed by users. Or am I missing something?

Also, I'm not sure what you have in mind for new scripts. Is this for the scriptwriters to share code or is it a reference for organizing the code?

Well i was gonna make a board for it when i realized you can just make a topic for your script/module and use that to post relevant extra info. Is that an idea or would you rather see a separate board Documentation? Thing is for as far as i can see it would be double, a topic somewhere about the script and another for it's documentation :) what do you think?

Okay, now I get it. I could make a coincidings topic and put links to whatever I want there. I take it there would be a heading for Scripts or Apps that shows up under some higher-level heading. Sounds good to me.

Is this chart an election or the chart for a spontaneous decision?

I got the idea yesterday evening june 3 at about 9 pm :)
The chart is for the first time i installed the forum, takes a few seconds with the installer there. That was the flexbb forum which is mean and small but lacked a way to handle pics easily so it didn't live very long.

I'm not sure how it will develop but the forum lets me move topics so i can always rearrange if it doesn't fit my moon in virgo :)
Maybe sometime there will be subfora like Classic or whatever.

There's a little green arrow on every post you can use to 'applaud' that post, my thought is it makes the board a bit more alive if you see a post is appreciated.
Also i did that Like button, i want to see which one works best.
