Hi there - I am working on a new feature for the Diurnal Horoscope module. This is a graphic ephemeris displaying the diurnal positions of the planets and angles against the natal chart. The aim of this new feature is to give an overview of the natal chart and the diurnal transiting positions for a period of +/- six months from the date of interest. This new feature is currently under development and won't be available for some time but I wanted to give Planetdance users an early look at the potential power of this way of working with transits.
Once again Boris Johnson's natal chart provides an instructive example. In Johnson's case, transiting Saturn is rapidly approaching it's natal position. Hence, Johnson is just about to enter an extended period whereby his second Saturn return will dominate his experience. This period will extend from early May until well into early 2024 as Johnson has a triple return ahead. (Specific dates are: 25 April 2023, 11 August 2023, 19 January 2023)
If you take a look at the graphic ephemeris (see attachments below), you will see that this is set out centred on 5 May 2023. This date is very interesting from a diurnal transit point of view as you can see that transiting Saturn has just crossed natal Saturn making the first direct pass of its return. The small red circle centred on this date (indicated by the pink line) shows that, from a diurnal chart point of view, transiting Saturn and natal Saturn are setting together. The red circles indicate the zodiacal position of the descendant.
You will see that I have also highlighted a couple of other positions. The black line towards the top of the graph shows the diurnal or daily position of the MC. On 5 May, natal Mars culminates on the meridian. The black line towards the middle of the graph shows the diurnal or daily position of the ascendant. On 5 May, natal Uranus rises on the horizon. These positions are very precise and show that Johnson's natal Mars-Uranus square is angular on this date in New York at the zone corrected time of Johnson's birth. Furthermore we can see that Johnson's natal Saturn-Uranus opposition is lying across the horizon more or less on the same date, with transiting Saturn beginning its triple return and crossing the horizon at the same time.
In essence, we can see that Johnson's natal t-square - Mars, Saturn, Uranus - is highly stimulated by the transiting diurnal angles on or about the 5 May 2023. To add further emphasis, transiting Saturn is triggering the t-square to commence its triple return. We can conclude that the next 9 months or so will be dominated by astrological activity symbolised by these natal positions. When using diurnal charts we can identify periods of time where this natal configuration is brought into high focus by the daily positions of the angles and other transiting planets.
This configuration can be cross-referenced with the Paran Analysis module (Time->Tools->Paran Analysis). In degree order, on the day of Johnson's birth, Uranus rises at 60 degrees RAMC, Mars culminates at 60 degrees RAMC (i.e. at the same time) and Saturn sets at 58 degrees RAMC (about eight minutes before). This is extremely interesting because we can see that the natal parans (created by the rotation of the earth each day, bringing each degree to the meridian and the horizon) play out each year on a specific day. In Johnson's case, the parans created by Mars, Saturn, and Uranus are triggered around 3-5 May each year. In 2023 we have a very focussed period of activity as Saturn is transiting its natal place bringing the whole configuration to the fore of Johnson's experience.
On the same date we can see that Johnson's natal Jupiter-Neptune opposition at 15 Taurus/Scorpio is afflicted by a lunar eclipse occurring on the same day. Although this is not angular in the diurnal chart it is a high profile configuration on the day. Other notable features in the diurnal chart are the pending Venus return in late Gemini and transiting Pluto's very precise square with natal Moon. Johnson is facing an extended period of time with slow-moving Pluto crossing a recrossing his natal lunar position. This transit, combined with his natal Saturn return, does not make for an easy-going period of time.
In my view, this period of time, beginning on or about the 5 May 2023, is one in which Johnson may face a life changing confrontation with these elements of his chart. Saturn may bring severe restrictions and limitations to his Mars-Uranus impulsiveness. This is something that he has had to deal with throughout his life, because of Saturn's involvement in the t-square, but the intensity of what he experiences in the next 9 months or so may be unlike anything he has had to deal with to date.
Another period of high focus is likely to be mid August 2023. I will explore this at a later date, but essentially the same configuration comes to the diurnal angles, although without such a precise alignment of the positions that we see on 5 May 2023. Another time of high focus may be early-mid November 2023. By the time the diurnal or day angles return to their 5 May positions (they transit the same degrees on the same days each year), Johnson's Saturn return will be over.
