Hindu/Vedic divisional charts
« on: October 07, 2023, 03:36:59 PM »
Grace and Kindness to you and those whom you know.

Are you planning to add Hindu/Vedic divisional charts, such as Vimshamsha, Siddshamsha, and Shashtisamsha?

Also, is it possible to create a wheel that shows the 28 nakshatras (adding Abhijit) rather than just the 27?

Thank you for replying.

I don't know about the former, Ed is the classical expert here, but those 28 nakshatra's is gonna be difficult, our font only contains 27 symbols, sorry.

Hi there - you may wish to explore the Vedic menu. The current version of the Vedic Horoscope module has divisional charts. See attachment below. I am currently rewriting this module. However I don't have enough time at the moment to progress this work. As Jean says I think a 28 lunar mansion system is going to be difficult. The individual who kindly supplied our glyphs for the 27 nakshatras works exclusively with this system.

Best wishes. Ed

Thank you both for your replies.

The nakshatra Abhijit is associated with the star Vega, which was the pole star circa 12,000 BCE.

In the Srimad Bhagavatam, Vishnu says, "Among the vigilant cycles of time, I am the year, and among seasons I am spring.  Among months, I am Margasirsa, and among lunar houses, I am the auspicious Abhijit."

Alas, Abhijit is missing from the work of most contemporary Hindu/Vedic astrologers.  Perhaps dividing 360ׄ° by 28 is too difficult ???

What I should have asked is whether you can create a wheel with 28 houses?

Also, when creating the Vargas (divisional charts), can you make them so that the are similar to the ones created by Solar Fire 9, as in the attached example.

May Grace and Kindness be with you and those whom you know.

Here is a brief addendum:

In her book, The Circle of Stars, p.101, Valerie Roebuck wrote, “Abhijit’s symbol is a triangle, or three-cornered hat. It consists of three stars which, unlike the other lunar mansions, are a long way from the ecliptic:  the bright white star Vega (Alpha Lyrae), and two other stars in the Lyre: Epsilon Lyrae and Zeta Lyrae.”

Hi there - a chart with 28 houses is probably not too difficult. Do you have an example I could look at. The medieval module includes the option to draw 28 lunar mansions on the outside of the wheel.

I wouldn't plan to include circular varga charts anytime soon. This is the first time I have seen them presented in this way. Most representations use the vedic charts formats (North and South Indian). I am rewriting the script at the moment (albeit slowly) but it's a complex one and a lot of work. To include the option for circular Varga charts would be a challenge, especially with Nakshatras around the outside.

The Vedic module is really designed as an introduction to the system, rather than a complete presentation of the methods. There are other free programs that do this more comprehensively.

Thanks for using Planetdance. Ed
