new bio.ab program
« on: November 11, 2023, 03:04:41 PM »
Sorry for the bad translation, Google Translator.

Hi Jean, I'm sending you the bio file I created.
Do you remember when I asked you for an explanation for the strange characters in TEXT(?
I like to have your opinion so that I can aggregate it into the initial functions.

I developed it by sharing it with Roberto Scerni and our Italian community. I started developing it in June and have been sharing it for testing since September.
It works like this:
The starting theme in PD is searched for among the themes recorded in the bio file, and if present it is displayed.
It is possible to update and integrate the data with Update, even with copy/paste, be careful not to modify the values of the first four lines,
essential for data portability.
>>>>> Rename planetdance.jpg to .bio
maybe we can improve it, do you have any advice?

The module operates with normal Boolean filters OR or AND, and the search can be carried out on the name, on the notes and mixed (name and notes)
entering up to 20 keys divided by '+'.
Distinguishes between strings (parts of words) and whole words, with a maximum limit of 10,000 inline themes.

You can enter up to approximately 8000 characters for each bio.
Each note includes all the data needed to store the theme itself in planetdance.

The search can be carried out taking into account all planetdance .db files (select the Search.all.db option), saving them in a single biographical file,
or export your search results by creating a new .bio and .pd file titled as you like with the export option.

Hi Livio,

It needs work.
First it asks me to open a file but i have no idea why. That's not very user friendly.
Then it says it wants to restart and just quits, this is also not very friendly.
So i have not yet seen very much, please update, and please only offer to restart planetdance as an option, why would you want to restart the whole planetdance anyway?

Hi Jean,
We were asked to remedy the limited space that planetdance reserved for notes. Here we have the possibility of linking a sequential file of 8k characters, which is amply sufficient for biographical notes. Changing the .bio file while using planetdance, gave memory occupation errors. We could not find a command that would reset it completely, so we preferred to relaunch planetdance during the betatest.
Even in some routines with strlist( I had errors and solved them with the classic write-read commands, the execution times seemed similar.
I have modified the programme bio and sent it to you.
If anything is not clear to you, please let me know.
Livio

I have tried it but it's still the same.

There are ways to deal with textfiles, like intopen / intread / intclose. There is also a command for searching through databases for a name. You could have asked.
And if you have encountered errors from scripts for instance with strlist you could have reported this.

If you want i will publish it, but i myself think it's not finished this way.

ps, telling people to restart planetdance because your script throws errors is definitely not the way to go. If you think there are errors you should let me know.
Also look at File - Open - Application - Bio and Find.
Also look at Horoscope Extra Notes.
No need to reinvent the wheel.

Sorry Livio, I just don't like it. It still starts the same, it asks to select file without any explanation. Besides if it's so unstable, i don't want it anyway, like i said, you should report those things so i can look at them. And like i said, there are already several programs that do something like horoscope - extra - notes, file open application bio etc etc.
Sorry.

Hi Jean, I'm the first to say that Livio's Bio is not perfect but has some features that at the moment you find in different apps. In one file you can save bio information of people and do a search based on those pieces of information saved. From what I understood  Note app just creates a single file with the info, not suitable for a deep search for multiple charts, Bio App (that actually exists)  needs a record number for the Int file, Livio App doesn't need this and lets you building your Bio file quite easily. Sure with your help we can improve this program to suit PD  standards ... but I think is not an idea to reject.

I'm sorry but i will not support a program that does not run stable.
If there are memory problems those should be reported, not asking a user to restart planetdance because your script has bugs, how can you even think to do that. And asking me to release such a script?

Besides i don't like a biography like this done by a script only, the solutions i have myself like intopen etc are faster because they are in c++.
