More personal interpretations
« on: January 24, 2024, 07:12:33 PM »
Would it be difficult to have more personal interpretations, i.e. who wants to play with the template files to obtain, let's say, not only Jupiter in Sag, but also Jupiter in Sag in the first house, in order to better explain the principle Where - How - Where?

The template file could have headers like:

JUP.SAG.H1

Or a better idee would be to have a Interpretations Editor wenu where to be able to chose 3 or 2 things that could be interpreted and the software to be able to construct a template based on those 3 chosen things:

Other examples:

Ruler of the first house in the nineth house, in Aries

The possibilities would be various

You can make your own interpretations. See the help for horoscope - interpretation.

You have a lot of ideas  ;D
The idea of more headers is valid but it's a lot of work and not only for me, because there would have to be 1440 texts for your jup.sag.h1 idea, 12 signs * 12 houses * 10 planets. I bet you forgot that. :)
So if you provide me a nice file with those 1440 texts i will see if i can enhance the template, else i'm not gonna do the work.

I'm always behind this language obstacle and I cannot make myself understood.

So what I wanted to know is if it's possible to play with the template using not only 2, buy 3 terms and how to do this.

I need the names for combining Signs, Planets and houses in those headers (their abbreviations). Where I could find them?

Because I don't want you (God save me!) to this work. Of course I'm aware how many combinations result, but I just wanted to know what are the abbreviations to use and where could I find them in order to create those file.

Those files could also be created by anybody who wants to provide to a friend, occasionaly, a more personal natal report. So the template could be used just in case, not always.

Of course, who has the time to create those files, good luck, no problem, but at least he knows what terms / abbreviations to use, that is my request.

For example I saw in the english.txt and empty_template.txt these abbreviations. My questions is: could I use them as they are presented there?

Let's take 2 cases. Could I use this:

1) jup sag 1 - for Jupiter in Sagittarius in house one
2) rul 1 2 ari - for Ruler of the first house is in house 2 in Aries

Are these above syntaxes correct? Does the software understand those codes of terms and chose the right paragraph from the template file?

Thank you

OK, I tested, as per the instructions in Help.

I created a .txt file and put it in ab\language

I have my Mercury in the first house in Sagittarius, so I used all the possible combinations in the headers:

[mer 1 sag]

xxxxx

[mer sag 1]

yyyyyy

[mer 01 sag]

zzzzzzzzz

[mer sag 01]

wwwwwwwww

but, unfortunately, it didn't work, so it seems that as of now the software doesn't know to combine 3 terms

As i said before, you are very creative. ;D But no, those won't work, just the ones you've seen in those examples.

Hi Jean, Ed

I know I bother you a lot, but this request is not burning  :) , so please take your time to reflect on this and you could answer whenever you have the necessary mood and time.

I also think this request is a benefit for all the users of PD, not only for me.

I made some changes, mostly cosmetic, to the "maketext.ab" file. If you think it's worth it, you can insert it in a new version, obviously with other modifications of your own, as you see fit.

I did this in an attempt to make some changes to the interpretation report, to make it nicer, but also more useful.

Considering the wealth of information in the PD, my opinion is that it is a pity that it is not used in the interpretation report.

In "maketext.ab" I would like to find:

1) how to put after "Interpretation for X ... born on ... in place ..."

I think it's the variables

gethoroscopetime

Syntax: real gethoroscopetime(char Index, int Time[6], real *JulianDay);

and

gethoroscopeplace

Syntax: gethoroscopeplace(char Index, char Name[], char flag);

I tried in so many ways to enter them, but I gave up.

2) I also think it would be useful to have retrograde planets in the report, something like that:

Saturn retrograde in Taurus
Saturn retrograde in 5th house

This would result in 2 sets of interpreation codes: [sat in tau] and [satr in tau] / [sat in 5] and [satr in 5]. Or, if you want to change all the codes, you could declare them of 4 characters like [satd] - for Saturn direct and [satr] - for Saturn retrograde.
I think this solution of 4 chars you won't accept it, because maybe this would imply many other changes in many other places, so it's up to you to find a solution.
(Yes, I know it would result in 108 new codes, but please think of how useful this thing would be for all the users).

3) another point of interest I think would be the element scores
Fire X%, Water Y%, ...

I think it would result in a very useful and aesthetically beautiful interpretation report.

I would be so proud to brag to others with such an interpretation report that other astrology softwares don't have

Thank you

PS: I'm attaching my modified maketext.ab file and, as usual, please change the extension.

You keep surprising me, this is programming language, it's supposed to be difficult, you are not supposed to understand that so quickly. :)
That's something to brag about.
Yes you need gethoroscopetime/place and before you can use them you indeed need to 'declare' variables where they can store their output.
You can see the changes in the (silent) update.

Again, there are indeed many possibilities but i'm not gonna do any work before i'm supplied with sufficient and adequate text files.

Hi Jean,

Thank you for your appreciation (maybe Mercury in the first house of Sagittarius makes me so curious and eager to learn, or maybe Uranus in the 10th house, or maybe the Cybernetics faculty I finished almost 30 years ago).

I immediately downloaded the update and ... you made me a real surprise by modifying that file. Yes, it looks very good (although maybe I'll modify it again, but you've made me ambitious to learn  :D ).

The need to have the retrograde planets in the interpretation report is an obvious one and you agree as well, but I will do my best to provide you with the requested files.

Thanks again!

Try:
Application - Edit, enter a name of your own in the box below, for instance gabriel.
The editor will open for gabriel.ab
Click right, do Program - Template - Horoscope.
Press F9 to run it, though there's no output yet.

Yes, I figured out how to do it. This is how I edited the "maketext.ab" file

And following your previous instructions, yes, I ran it and it makes a blank window (800x600) with a small menu

Hi Jean,

I) I'm attaching the requested interpretation file for the retrogrades planets.

Is structured like this:

1) first Retrograde planets general semnification with codes from [mer retro gen] to [plu retro gen]
2) then, for each retrograde planet, their interpretation first in signs [mer retro ari], then in house [mer retro 1] ... until Pluto

II) regarding the modification you have done in "maketext.ab" I encoutered a small issue, related to time zone, I suppose.

So, the

strset(b, "%l %s born on %s at %s in %s", "Interpretation for", s, ds, ts, plc);

results in

"Interpretation for Ana born on 29/10/1980 at 23:51:00 in Bacau, Romania, 26e54, 46n34, Europe/Bucharest"

The last info, Europe/Bucharest I suppose is the time zone, but it could be a little confusing, since the city of birth is Bacau and the last city, Bucharet, could be understood as being the birth city, which is not.

So I tried to change the last flag from

gethoroscopeplace(0, plc, 1); to gethoroscopeplace(0, plc, 0);

seeing in the help of AstroBasic that it would return the time zone, but, unfortunately it returned a strange number, 317

Interpretation for Ana born on 29/10/1980 at 23:51:00 in Bacau, Romania, 26e54, 46n34, 317"

which I suppose is the time zone (EET, maybe?) but difficult to understand. Is any workaround for this, please?

PS: the attached file is a zip one and is protected with your full birth date as passowrd  ;) but, as always, it needs the extension to be changed.

Thank you!

Hi Gabriel - I'm afraid I can't open your attachments so can't see what you are proposing. Thinking about what Jean has said, the challenge with this idea is writing the actual interpretative text which would take a huge amount of work. Thanks. Ed

Hi Gabriel - I'm not sure how your idea is very different to reading the Erlewine text for the Sun sign and house positions together. I think your idea is admirable, but please be aware of the time required to undertake a project such as this. Ed

******************

Sun is in Libra ( 0243')

Your keyword is responsibility -- the ability to respond. You are able to find yourself in others, in relationships, rather than alone -- a mirror or clear pool. You can be peaceful, calm, and undisturbed. A genius at bringing out others getting them to do things, you are a born strategist.

******************

Sun is in the house 5

You are very expressive and outgoing when it comes to your feelings and emotions -- you wear your heart on your sleeve. Creativity of all kinds is important to you -- music, drama, art, poetry. Also, animals and children play a large role.

Hi Ed,

My modification of the maketext.txt file is a very very small one and is just for aesthetics and adding some words in the header of the file and at the title of each paragraph, just for a more easier and human reading. So it's nothing of a technical nature. I mostly wanted to learn how to edit, using Astro Basic.

My idea about introducing retrograde planets in the interpretation report, I think you agree, is a useful one, as there is a big difference between the influence of a direct and a retrograde planet.

I fully understand that it is a lot of work to make this change and that's why I also said I would wait until it's ready, so it's not the slightest problem.

As Jean asked, I sent him the file containing all possible interpretations of the retrograde planets, with the structure I described above:

1) first Retrograde planets - general semnification with codes from [mer retro gen] to [plu retro gen]
2) then, for each retrograde planet, their interpretation first in signs [mer retro ari], then in house [mer retro 1] ... until Pluto

Thank you
