LORD OF THE ORB
« on: December 28, 2020, 10:33:13 PM »
This is a question about the calculation of lord of the orb.  Take the chart of Donald Trump born 14 Jun 1946 at 10:42 AM EDT in Jamaica NY on a Venus day during a Jupiter hour, which makes Jupiter the "lord of the orb" at birth (0 years old) and at 7 year intervals thereafter.  Jupiter should be lord of the orb at ages 0, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63, 70, 77, etc.  He won the US election of 8 Nov 2016 at age 70 when his lord of the orb was Jupiter.
If we use the Horoscope - Medieval - Medieval Traditional Chart module and select the date to calculate as 8 Nov 2016 and go to Detailed Analysis - Annual Directions, at the bottom of the popup window it says the lord of the orb is Venus, but it should be Jupiter in 2016 at age 70.
I have tested this with other charts and the calculation of the lord of the orb appears to be off, at least according the the description of lord of the orb given by Abu Ma'Shar and repeated in various Latin and Old Castilian  texts from the Renaissance period (for example, Diego de Torres).
In other words, the lord of the orb is the same as the planetary hour at birth. Then each year the lord of the orb is the next planet in the Chaldean order from Saturn to the Moon. In Trump's chart, he was born during a Jupiter hour at age 0, so at age 1 his lord of the orb is Mars, at age 2 the Sun, at age 3 Venus, at age 4 Mercury, at age 5 the Moon, at age 6 Saturn, at age 7 Jupiter, and this sequence repeats for the rest of his life. The lord of the orb moves around the chart starting in the 1st house at birth and seems to have a special significance for the house it falls in during a particular solar return year.

Thanks Anthony = I'll take a look at this. There could be a bug in the module. All the best. Ed

I just checked the bug fix using Trump's chart.  It correctly gives Jupiter as his lord of the orb for the Nov 2016 election in the USA.
The lord of the orb should move to Mars on his next birthday, but the program gives Venus rather than Mars, so some type of bug still seems to be present.
On each subsequent birthday the lord of the orb moves to the next planet in the Chaldean sequence: Saturn - Jupiter - Mars - Sun - Venus - Mercury - Moon, so the birthday after 2016, where lord of the orb is Jupiter, has to be Mars.

Hi Anthony - I think this will now be fixed. I checked again with Trump's chart and the correct sequence showed for Lord of the Orb. Apologies for the false dawn with the first fix.

Jean will distribute this in the next release.

Best wishes. Ed
